small stock investment

What is the difference between small cap and large-cap investments. (shares and mutual funds)?

I am a boy university looking to buy, while the market is weak and I think I have pretty good understanding of basic economics and investment, but I have very clear about these terms. Please help!

Shares Small Cap is companies with small market capitalization (price per share times the number of shares outstanding), usually between $ 300 million and $ 2 billion. Large-cap stocks generally have a market capitalization market more than $ 10 billion. Mid Cap is obviously in the middle.
